To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food how many cases of BSE have been confirmed in the United Kingdom since November 1986.

Since November 1986 and up to 13 May 1994, 128,879 cases of BSE have been confirmed in the United Kingdom.

§ Dr. Strang
To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what is the total of confirmed cases of BSE in the United Kingdom in animals born after the ruminant feed ban.

§ Mrs. Gillian Shephard
As at 10 May 1994, 9,928 cases of BSE have been confirmed in Great Britain in animals born after the ruminant feed ban which came into operation on 18 July 1988. Some 39 cases have been confirmed in Northern Ireland in animals born after the ruminant feed ban which came into operation on 11 January 1989.

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food how many United Kingdom farms have had at least one confirmed case of BSE, since November 1986.

§ Mrs. Gillian Shephard
Since November 1986 and up to 13 May 1994, 31,395 farms in the United Kingdom have had at least one confirmed case of BSE.
