§ Mr. SproatThe Sports Council assists national governing bodies of sport in attracting major international sporting events. The council has established a major events support group which will hold its inaugural meeting next month. This will provide practical guidance and technical advice on the various tasks and costs involved in bidding for and staging major events. The Sports Council has provided £560,000 in support of a number of major events being held in the United Kingdom this year.
