To ask the Secretary of State for Health if she will list for each year for the last 10 years the number of Caesarean births.

The estimated figures for England for the years 1982 to 1985 and 1988–89 to 1991–92 are shown in the table. These figures relate to deliveries in hospitals and not to the number of babies born.

Data are unavailable for the years 1986 to 1987–88 because of changes to the data collection system.
