§ Lord Pearson of Rannochasked Her Majesty's Government:
What price was paid, to whom and by what firm of property developers, for Brockhall residential hospital and its surrounding 200 acres of land in the Ribble Valley after its residents were moved elsewhere, and whether they are satisfied with that price.
§ The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Health (Baroness Cumberlege)Brockhall residential hospital closed in March 1992. It comprised about 202 acres, partly owned freehold, and partly held on lease from London and Aukland Estates Ltd. My right honourable friend the Secretary of State for Health's interest has been conveyed to London and Aukland Estates Ltd., who intend to develop the entire site, under a complex agreement. The agreement has saved substantial costs in complying with the leasehold convenants and ensures security of tenure for National Health Service staff. The arrangements protect the NHS against risks of loss, but shares in the development income. The financial arrangements are commercially confidential, but we will provide the noble Lord with further information by letter. We are satisfied that the agreement secured the best deal for the NHS under the circumstances.
