HL Deb 17 May 1994 vol 555 cc6-7WA
Lord Rippon of Hexham

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they have any information about the extent of foreign ownership of the British media and, if so, whether they will publish it.

Baroness Trumpington

No such information is collected centrally. Broadcasting companies are, however, required to provide ownership details to the Independent Television Commission and the Radio Authority.

Lord Rippon of Hexham

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will initiate any inquiry into the extent of foreign ownership of the British media, and whether such ownership ought to be regulated.

Baroness Trumpington

No. Foreign ownership of the broadcast media is already regulated under Schedule 2 of the Broadcasting Act 1990.
