§ Mr. VazTo ask the Secretary of State for Scotland how many(a) portable telephones, (b) pagers and electronic bleepers and (c) car telephones are currently used by his Department; what are the annual costs of operating this equipment; and to which personnel it is made available.
§ Mr. Lang[holding answer 11 May 1994]: At present there are 271 portable telephones in use with annual running costs amounting to £106,130; 292 pagers/ electronic bleepers costing £33,334 annually and 30 car 369W telephones with an annual cost of £21,280. Equipment is used by officers requiring mobile communication facilities with allocations decided by local line management.
