HC Deb 12 May 1994 vol 243 c207W
Mrs. Ann Taylor

To ask the Secretary of State for Education what is the estimated total cost of Sir Ron Dearing's review of the national curriculum; what is the total cost to date; and if he will provide a detailed breakdown of such costs.

Mr. Robin Squire

The estimated total cost to date is £1.3 million, comprising:

  1. (i) £755k for the interim and final Dearing reports on the National Curriculum; and
  2. (ii) £528k for work on slimming down the curriculum by the School Curriculum and Assessment Authority (SCAA) and its advisory groups (excluding SCAA's internal staff costs).
The eventual cost of the current consultation on the revised curriculum proposals is estimated at about £2 million, which includes the cost of publishing and distributing the consultation documents and a report on the outcome of consultation.
