HL Deb 12 May 1994 vol 554 cc93-4WA
Lord Williams of Elvel

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether the review team led by Mr. Michael Bett mentioned in para 514 of the Statement on the Defence Estimates 1994 (Cm 2550) have appointed management consultants to assist them, and, if so, what are the terms and conditions under which the management consultants have been appointed; what is the name of the management consultants; and what are the qualifications of the management consultants and Mr. Michael Bett to conduct such a review.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Ministry of Defence (Viscount Cranborne)

The matter of what consultancy assistance may be required by the review team will be primarily one for Mr. Bett. No consultants have at this stage been appointed for this purpose, but my department is making arrangements to ensure that appropriately qualified assistance is available at short notice as and when requirements are identified. Mr. Bett and his team between them have longstanding and wide experience of industry, finance, personnel and management issues and of the Armed Forces.
