To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what assessments he has made of the proportion of Gwynedd economy which is dependent on(A) tourism, (b) slate quarrying, (c) farming and fishing and (d) the power industry.

The latest available employment data at the detailed industrial breakdown required are from the 1991 census of employment, which covers employees only. The following table shows the number of employees in each category expressed as a percentage of all employees in Gwynedd. In addition, the 1991 census of population indicates that 6.0 per cent. of all employed and self-employed persons in Gwynedd were engaged in agriculture, forestry and fishing.
