§ 14. Mr. CanavanTo ask the Secretary of State for Defence what is the policy of his Department on, and what regulations are in force in respect of, the recruitment into the armed forces of young people under the age of 18 years.
§ Mr. HanleyThe minimum age limit for recruitment of non-commissioned personnel into the armed forces is 16; for officers, the age limits are higher and vary for each of the services. No recruits under the age of 18 may enter the services without the written permission of their parents or guardian.
