HC Deb 09 May 1994 vol 243 c55W
24. Mr. Carrington

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport when he plans to meet the chairman of London Transport to discuss improvements to the London underground.

Mr. Norris

My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State and I regularly meet the chairman of London Transport to discuss a wide range of issues relating to the London underground.

29. Mr. Cohen

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport how much is the current year's investment by his Department in the London underground.

Mr. Norris

The Government provides a block grant to London Transport (LT) as a whole; they do not allocate a specific amount to the underground. This year's grant to LT will be £373 million, to which LT will be able to add a substantial sum from sale of the London Bus companies. LT are currently budgeting to invest £423 million in London underground this year.
