HL Deb 09 May 1994 vol 554 cc80-1WA
Lord Hylton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What representations they have made to Iran concerning Judge Hojatoleslan Mohammed Ghazavi of Tehran, who ruled that two Muslims should not go to prison for murdering a follower of the Baha'i faith, and that the family of the latter should not receive the compensation required by Iranian law; and whether they will raise the case at the United Nations Human Rights Commission.

Baroness Chalker of Wallasey

We were deeply disturbed at reports that an Iranian judge had ruled that two men could not be convicted of kidnapping and killing a Baha'i simply because of his faith. We are bringing this case to the attention of the UN Special Representative on human rights in Iran, Mr. Galindo-Pohl.
