§ Mr. David ShawTo ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what plans his Department has(a) to utilise the Internet, (b) to make available on the Internet press releases and other departmental information which the public may wish to have access to and (c) to use the Internet as a means of increasing the openness of his Department.
§ Mr. HowardLimited use of the Internet is made by research and development scientists in my Department for communicating with universities and other research organisations. My Department's press notices are passed electronically to the Central Office of Information, through which they are made available to users of the Internet. We have no further plans to use the Internet.
