HL Deb 09 May 1994 vol 554 c79WA
Lord Rippon of Hexham

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether, as part of the celebration of D-Day, they will convey to the people of Russia and the other states of the former Soviet Union remembrance of their sacrifices during the war; and whether they will ensure that these people are fully involved in next year's celebration of VE Day.

Viscount Cranborne

The commemorations marking the 50th Anniversary of D-Day are intended to recognise the contribution of the wartime allies who provided formed military units for operations in and around Normandy on 6th June 1944.

The commemorations planned to mark the end of the Second World War will provide the occasion to recognise the contributions of others, including the Russians, to the war effort.
