HC Deb 04 May 1994 vol 242 c554W
39. Mr. Paice

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on his recent visit to the Falkland Islands.

Mr. Heathcoat-Amory

The visit by my right hon. Friend was the first by a Foreign Secretary. He received a warm welcome. The islanders are proud of their way of life and much attached to it and to the United Kingdom. They are confident about the future. He reassured them that sovereignty was not for discussion and that we would continue to support their right to self-determination. Clearly life would be simpler if Argentina dropped her claim.
