HC Deb 03 May 1994 vol 242 cc462-3W
Mr. John Greenway

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what fresh advice or representations he received on the strategic importance of the proposed improvements to the A64, the A19 and the A1237 during his recent review of trunk roads in England.

Mr. Key

During the recent review of trunk roads, schemes in the existing programme were prioritised on the basis of route importance, economic benefits, and environmental constraints. The case for the improvement of the A64 between York and Seamer has been accepted, but construction will be deferred until a later date. Similar considerations apply to the A 19 Thormanby bypass and the Shipton by Beningborough bypass. The Al237 York northern bypass improvement has been withdrawn because of local opposition on traffic and environmental grounds.
