To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what is the shortest distance between Belfast and(a) Scotland and (b) the Republic of Ireland.

From City hall, Belfast to Portpatrick lighthouse in Scotland is 58.2 km and to the middle of Newry river west of Narrow Water castle in the Republic of Ireland is 58.8 km. The accuracy of the measurements is assessed to be to the nearest 200 m.
