1. Additions to the register include instances of patients registering with a dentist after a break in attendance and instances of reinstatement of registrations that have been cancelled in error.

2. Some dentists have contracts in more than one regional health authority area. These dentists have, where appropriate, been included in the count for each regional health authority area where they are under contract, but only once in the England total.
