To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what was the average level of household debt for each year since 1979.

Debt figures for the personal sector—which includes unincorporated businesses and private non-profit making bodies, as well as households—are available from the Central Statistical Office database. Separate figures for the household sector are not available.
