HC Deb 29 March 1994 vol 240 cc705-6W
Mr. Worthington

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will publish the annual capital expenditure on schools since 1979 in real and constant price terms.

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

The information requested, which is given in the table, has been compiled from local authority financial returns. The fall in expenditure in real terms during the period reflects a substantial and progressive decline in school pupil numbers which has reduced the requirement for new school building.
