To ask the Parliamentary Secretary, Lord Chancellor's Department how many magistrates were in post in 1993; and how many resigned for reasons other than age.

At 31 December 1993 there were 30,054 magistrates in post in England and Wales; during 1993, 1,043 magistrates resigned for reasons other than age.
