To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland how many dairy farmers there were in Scotland in each year since 1985.

No information on the number of dairy farmers is collected. The Scottish agricultural census identifies specialist dairy and general dairy farm types.

1 A new system of farm typology was introduced in 1993. On the same basis there were 1,899 dairy farms in 1992.
