Ms Primarolo

To ask the Secretary of State for Health how many children between the ages of 16 and 18 years have care orders; and how many of them are(a) currently with fostering families and (b) in homes.

Mr. Bowis

The latest centrally available information relates to the position at 31 March 1992, when it is estimated that 6,900 children aged 16 or 17 were subject to care orders; of these 3,100 were placed with foster parents and 900 were resident in community homes.
