Mr. Blunkett

To ask the Secretary of State for Health (1) what percentage of patients are seen and assessed for treatment within five minutes of arriving in accident and emergency departments;

(2) what percentage of patients are seen within 30 minutes of their out-patient appointment time.

In the quarter ending 31 December 1993, 83 per cent.—estimated based on samples—of patients attending accident and emergency departments were assessed immediately and 80 per cent.—estimated based on samples—of patients were seen within 30 minutes of their specified appointment time in out-patient clinics.
