HC Deb 28 March 1994 vol 240 c555W
Mr. David Porter

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what consideration he has given to the use of technology to enable all people charged with crimes to be tried in the area in which they were arrested; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Charles Wardle

We have no current plans to use technology in the way suggested. The Government do, however, keep under review developments in this sector, and are examining a number of ways in which the conduct of court business might be aided by the use of new technology.
