HC Deb 28 March 1994 vol 240 c546W
Mr. Maclennan

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland (1) what plans he has to make it a requirement to notify the Scottish Office Agriculture and Fisheries Department of an outbreak of sheep scab; and if he will make a statement;

(2) what information he has about the incidence of sheep scab in Scotland.

Sir Hector Monro

I have seen a number of reports recently about sheep scab outbreaks in Scottish flocks. However, this is a disease which can be controlled readily by individual farmers who are well aware of the preventive measures and procedures needed to deal with it. Most of the detailed measures on the control of sheep scab were removed in July 1992 and the Government have already announced that they will complete this process. We have no other plans to require the notification of sheep scab.
