Mr. Morgan

To ask the Secretary of State for Education if he will list those academic institutions in the private higher education sector whose courses have not been accredited by the Higher Education Quality Council and the Higher Education Funding Councils of England, Wales and Scotland, but where mandatory local education authority grants will apply at the lower rate.

Neither the Higher Education Quality Council nor the three Higher Education Funding Councils accredit courses. A number of courses at private higher education institutions are designated under the Education (Mandatory Awards) Regulations. Students holding mandatory awards for attendance on those courses have their maintenance grants calculated in the same way as all other award holders. The fees payable on their behalf under
