§ Mr. DalyellTo ask the Secretary of State for Transport what account is taken of the expected changes in PM10 levels in his Department's methodology for assessing the costs and benefits of proposed road schemes; and if he will seek expert advice on the case for reviewing the methodology to give greater weight to the cost implications for proposed road schemes of the effects of PM10 emissions.
§ Mr. KeyThe effects of emissions are considered as part of the environmental assessment of trunk road schemes although they are not assigned monetary values. There is no PM10 standard in the United Kingdom as yet, but this is under consideration as indicated by my hon. Friend the Minister of State for the Environment and Countryside on 21 March 1994 in his answer to a question from the hon. Member for Newport, West (Mr. Flynn),Official Report, column 114. I shall await the results of this work with interest.
