HC Deb 28 March 1994 vol 240 c501W
Mr. Gunnell

To ask the President of the Board of Trade what plans he has for the future of the environmental impact assessment unit at British Coal, following implementation of the Coal Industry Bill.

Mr. Eggar

I understand that responsibility for environmental impact assessment of particular projects has been devolved to British Coal's operational groups, under the overall policy guidance of British Coal's headquarters operations department. After privatisation, it will be for successor mining companies to decide how to meet the statutory requirements for environmental impact assessment.
