HC Deb 25 March 1994 vol 240 cc447-8W
Mr. Dafis

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will consider modifications to the Treasury's methods of economic forecasting in order to take into account the impact of environmental factors on the economy.

Mr. Nelson

[holding answer 24 March 1994]: The Treasury will continue to use the current system of national accounts as the basis for its economic forecast. However, the Central Statistical Office and Department of the Environment are engaged in the long term development of environmental accounts and indicators to provide information about the impact of environmental factors on the economy. This work is still in its early stages, but an illustrative set of accounts was published in Economic Trends in November 1992.
