To ask the Secretary of State for Education what annual grant is paid to the City Technology Colleges Trust; if he will list all(a) trustees and (b) council members of the City Technology Colleges Trust since its foundation giving the periods of service of each; and what payments have been made to council members of the City Technology Colleges Trust.

Mr. Robin Squire

The annual grant to be paid by the Department to the City Technology Colleges Trust for the 1994–95 financial year is £664,500. The charitable trustees of the trust, who are its council members, are listed below, together with their periods of service. No remuneration is paid to council members, although reasonable expenses incurred for attendance at council meetings are reimbursed if requested.

Note: The percentage of maintained secondary school pupils educated in grammar schools remains broadly constant between 1992 and 1993, despite a rise in the number of pupils in maintained grammar schools, because there was an increase of equal proportions, in the number of pupils in all maintained schools over this period.
