To ask the Secretary of State for Education how many(a) boys and (b) girls aged five to 16 years had a statement of special educational need for the latest available year.

A total of 171,784 pupils aged 5 to 19 had statements as at January 1993. Data for 17 to 19-year-olds is not collected separately. Figures by gender are not available.
