HC Deb 23 March 1994 vol 240 c310W
Mr. Murphy

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what plans he has to improve prostate cancer screening for men.

Mr. Gwilym Jones

There are no plans to introduce a national screening programme for prostate cancer. Current evidence does not suggest that any such programme would achieve a demonstrable improvement in health by increasing the length and quality of life.

The value of available techniques for the early detection of prostate cancer is kept under review. We are aware of some local research into this issue.
