HC Deb 23 March 1994 vol 240 c249W
Mr. Robert Banks

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what progress has been made in ensuring tighter security for passengers at United Kingdom airports.

Mr. Norris

Since the Lockerbie tragedy there have been substantial improvements in aviation security in the United Kingdom both for passengers and for staff. Further improvements are being made in baggage screening and in acounting and authorising for carriage of all hold baggage on international flights.

The Department of Transport sets training standards for staff working in civil aviation who receive terrorist warnings, and for the national aviation security programme which covers, among other things, airport authorities' contingency plans, staff instructions, training programme and exercises.
