To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what is(a) the minimum and (b) the average number of days a patient stays in hospital after undergoing a liver biopsy operation.

[holding answer 18 March 1994]: Patients undergoing a liver biopsy in Scotland have an average length of stay in hospital of four days. The procedure can be carried out on a day case basis.
