HL Deb 21 March 1994 vol 553 c16WA
Lord Avebury

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What reply they have made to the appeal' addressed to them by Leyla Zana MP, Ahmet Turk MP, Sirri Sakik MP, Mahmut Alinak MP and Selim Sadak MP, who have been deprived of their parliamentary immunity in Turkey, on behalf of themselves and their colleagues Hatip Dicle MP and Orhan Dogan MP, who were arrested by the anti-terrorist police and charged under Article 125 of the Criminal Code, which carries the death penalty, asking for international protection.

Baroness Chalker of Wallasey

We have made plain to the Turkish authorities the widespread international concern about the lifting of the parliamentary immunity of the Democracy Party deputies. We shall await the decision of the Constitutional Court on their appeal before considering further action.
