To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will set out the definition of(a) low income countries, (b) lower middle income countries, (c) upper middle income countries and (d) high income countries as used to define the allocations of overseas aid in figure 10 of his annual departmental report and expenditure plans, 1994–95 to 1997–98, Cm. 2502.

The classifications are those used by the development assistance committee of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development and are defined as followsLow income country: GNP per capita below $765 in 1991; Lower middle income country: GNP per capita in 1991 of $765 or above but not exceeding $2,556; Upper middle income country: GNP per capita in 1991 of $2,555 or above but not exceeding $7,380; High income country: GNP per capita in 1991 above $7,380
