§ Lord Sefton of Garstonasked Her Majesty's Government:
Whether they initially stipulated that the Jubilee Line extension should not proceed unless the private sector contributed £400 million, and if so, why they have allowed work on the extension to proceed without that stipulation being met.
§ Lord Mackay of ArdbrecknishUnder an agreement with the Government in 1989, Olympia and York undertook to make a cash contribution of £400 million over time to the Jubilee Line extension. The Secretary of State gave his authority to start construction on 29 October 1993 following the signing of a funding agreement the previous day which provided for the £400 million contribution to be made over the same period of time.
