HC Deb 21 March 1994 vol 240 c32W
Mr. Winnick

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will make it the practice that when the hon. Member for Walsall, North is making written representations to a Minister in his Department on behalf of a constituent he will not be telephoned by a chief immigration officer to try to persuade him to drop the representation.

Mr. Charles Wardle

Written representations submitted to Ministers which the Immigration Service has not had the opportunity to consider are sent first to the port concerned for consideration. It is not the practice of the Immigration Service to try to persuade an hon. Member not to pursue his representations.
