§ Mr. SackvilleNo figures are available for heart valve implants before 1986. However, according to the United Kingdom heart valve registry 31,271 patients were implanted with heart valves between 1 January 1986 and 31 December 1992. Of those, 5,841 have died. None of the deaths was related to faulty valves.
Of patients implanted prior to 1986, 43 deaths have been reported following failure of mechanical heart valves.
