§ Mr. Austin MitchellTo ask the President of the Board of Trade what assessment he has made of the reasons for the relative amount of output of cotton cloth in the United Kingdom from 1989 to 1993 on(a) the United Kingdom and (b) Italy, Germany and France; if he will publish a 38W table showing the corresponding figures for 1973 and 1979 together with, for each of those years (i) production, imports, exports and consumption of cotton cloth by each country and (ii) United Kingdom imports from and exports of cotton cloth to each of the other three countries.
§ Mr. NeedhamThe Department has not undertaken such an assessment. Information on cotton cloth production is regularly published by the UN in "Monthly Bulletin of Statistics", a copy of which is available in the Library of the House. Information on trade in cotton cloth for the United Kingdom, Italy, France, and Germany is regularly published by the United Nations in "Yearbook of International Trade Statistics", a copy of which is available in the Library of the House. Information for the United Kingdom's trade with the other countries in cotton cloth is published by the Central Stastical Office in "Overseas Trade Statistics of the United Kingdom" which can he obtained from the Library of the House. Information on consumption of cotton cloth is not collected.
