HC Deb 17 March 1994 vol 239 c835W
Mr. Alex Carlile

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what assessment she has made of the policy which allows electricity pylons to be sited near homes; and if she will make a statement.

Mr. Sackville

Advice to Government, including both this Department and the Department of Trade and Industry, about radiation matters is provided by the National Radiological Protection Board. New electric lines above ground, with the exception of connections to individual customers and certain very minor developments, require the consent of my right hon. Friend the President of the Board of Trade who may also grant deemed planning permission.

I refer the hon. Member to the reply I gave him on 21 February at columns 40–41 concerning the question of any health risk.
