HL Deb 15 March 1994 vol 553 cc6-7WA
Earl Peel

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether, in view of the strength of feeling expressed by the relevant parish councils and the local residents and the level of accidents on the A. 66 between Scotch Corner and the M 6, they will reconsider their decisions not to upgrade that road to dual carriageway.

Lord Mackay of Ardbrecknish

Pressure on public expenditure and the need to define clear national priorities means hard choices have to be made, given the level of resources available for road schemes. However. no decision had been made not to upgrade the A. 66 to dual carriageway. On our response to the Trans-Pennine Routes study we indicated that further schemes on the A. 66 would not be proposed at this stage.
