HC Deb 14 March 1994 vol 239 c501W
Miss Lestor

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is his policy on whether future secure accommodation for young offenders should be sited in the grounds of adult prisons.

Mr. Maclean

The search for suitable sites on which to locate the new secure training centres for persistent juvenile offenders has included an evaluation of Prison Service sites, both those which are redundant and those surplus to requirements. No final decisions have been taken, but if Prison Service sites are used for one or more of the centres, they will operate as self-contained and fully autonomous units.
