HC Deb 14 March 1994 vol 239 c477W
Mr. Corbyn

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what representation Her Majesty's Government have in Haiti; what reports have been received concerning abuses of human rights in Haiti; and what representations have been made to the Haitian authorities.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

Britain is represented by Her Majesty's ambassador resident at Kingston, Jamaica, and a vice-consul in Port au Prince, Haiti, Reports of human rights abuses are compiled by a special rapporteur of the United Nations Commission on Human Rights; by United Nations civilian observer in Port au Prince who also register complaints locally; and by non-governmental organisations such as Amnesty International. We have supported United Nations resolutions expressing concern about human rights violations in Haiti. The European Union has also made several statements on this question.
