HC Deb 14 March 1994 vol 239 c528W
Mr. Morgan

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he will issue guidelines to family health service authorities concerning the prescribing by general practitioners of sessions in a gymnasium for NHS patients; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Redwood

[holding answer 11 March 1994]: I understand that a growing number of GPs are making arrangements with their local leisure centres for vouchers which the doctors can give to patients whom they have assessed as likely to benefit from a suitable course of exercise. This is a matter for GPs' clinical judgment: these are local initiatives, I have no current plans to issue guidance on the subject.
