To ask the Secretary of State for Employment, pursuant to his answer of 23 February,Official Report, column 227, what is the current national minimum wage rate for the United States of America provided under the Fair Labour Standards Act 1938.

The current rates above which individual states in the USA are free to set minimum wages are set out in the fair labour standards amendments of 1989. A copy of this legislation is available in the Library.
