To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security how many(a) men and (b) women have had their benefit cut for failure to attend a restart course.

Since December 1990, approximately 31,000 unemployed claimants received a reduced personal rate of income support after the adjudication officer decided they had failed to attend or complete a restart course without good reason.

Details of the respective numbers of men and women affected are not held.
