HC Deb 07 March 1994 vol 239 c15W
Mr. Terry Davis

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is the entitlement of prison governors to time off work to attend family funerals.

Mr. Peter Lloyd

Responsibility for this matter has been delegated to the director general of the Prison Service, who has been asked to arrange for a reply to be given.

Letter from Derek Lewis to Mr. Terry Davis, dated 7 March 1994: The Home Secretary has asked me to reply to your recent Question about the entitlement of prison governors to time off work to attend family funerals. Special leave for this purpose is not an entitlement. Wherever possible, however, subject to the operational needs of establishments, governors would be allowed time off, with pay, to attend the funeral of a close relative or dependant.
