To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what representations he has received from EU states concerning the proposal of the Secretary of State for Social Security to introduce a test of habitual residence in the United Kingdom affecting EC nationals seeking work in the United Kingdom; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

The Irish Minister for Social Welfare has requested a meeting with my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Social Security to discuss this proposal. We have had no representations from other European Union states.
